The replica car trade is booming these days. Superformance, the de facto name in the replica industry, just pulled the covers off a new Ford GT40 recreation that may be one of the most desirable replicas ever created.

Most GT40 replicas are mishmashes of different generations of the car. Superformance’s limited run of 50th Anniversary GT40s instead focuses in on one particular “spec” of Ford’s classic supercar, with a bolt-for-bolt recreation of the 1966 Ford GT40 Mk. II that charged across the finish line for a 1-2-3 finish at Le Mans.
According to Superformance, there isn’t a more accurate GT40 recreation available. The South Africa-based manufacturer uses an identical monocoque and unibody as the actual race car, with 90 percent of parts being interchangeable with the original GT40. Modernized components include Wilwood brakes, Bilstein shocks, air conditioning, and an adjustable pedal box to make it as driveable as Ford’s 2005 GT.

Each 50th Anniversary GT40 comes with special commemorative gold badging, with three distinct editions available. The Bruce McLaren edition comes in black with silver stripes, the Ken Miles in blue and white, and the Dan Gurney in red and white.
Superformance’s recommended powertrain is Shelby’s aluminum-block 427 (7.0-liter) V-8. Each GT40 will have a place in the Shelby registry.
Want one? Better hurry, as the 50th Anniversary GT40 is limited to just 20 units, and the order books are open. The recreation makes its official debut at the 2016 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, AZ.
